Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people (1 Pet. 2:9; cf. 2:4-5), is their right and duty by reason of their baptism.
In the restoration and promotion of the sacred liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else; for it is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit; and therefore pastors of souls must zealously strive to achieve it, by means of the necessary instruction, in all their pastoral work. (Excerpt from Sacrosanctum Concilium)
Questions for First-time Visitors
I am divorced and have not received an annulment. May I receive the Eucharist?
Yes. While it is always appropriate and preferred that you speak with the pastor of the parish before receiving any sacrament, the eucharist is not typically withheld due to marital status. However, a proper examination of conscience should occur (for everyone) before receiving the Eucharist. As with every parish, it is generally trusted that the faithful, provided with proper formation and understanding, are able to determine for themselves whether they are called to receive the Most Precious Body and Blood of Our Lord.
I have not been to confession in years, and I would like to go before receiving the Eucharist. Can I make an appointment?
Absolutely. This is encouraged before resuming full participation in the Church. Fr. Taylor is available by appointment or from 10:30 - 11:00 on most Sunday mornings. Both anonymous or face-to-face confessions may be made.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, is encouraged for all faithful. Through this act, we can more fully experience God's unconditional love and mercy. In an age where we are increasingly averse to acknowledging our sin and wrongdoing, it is here where we are able to open ourselves up in a unique and profoundly sacred way and to grow closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
